ALENA LAPTSIONAK

Alena Laptsionak is a Belarusian human rights activist, philologist, lecturer of Belarusian and Russian language and literature. She graduated from the Belarusian State University in 1990 and received a Master’s degree in the Institute of Literature at the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences in 2002.  Since 2005, she has worked at the Human Rights Centre Viasna, which helps political prisoners and their families. Laptsionak has compiled monthly reviews of human rights violations in Belarus since 2006. She is also an editor and compiler of different human rights` publications. In 2021, the Belarusian authorities started persecuting Laptsionak for her activities. She represents the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Ales Bialatski, founder of Viasna.
